The article “Sarah Smith: Abortion Survivor”, (www.priestsforlife.org/sarah.html - this website supports the end to abortion and will only present one side of the issue) tells the story of Sarah Smith, a girl who survived her mother’s abortion. Sarah’s mother, Betty, had an abortion on her child, Andrew, but was unaware that she was carrying twins. Sarah lived but was born with bilateral congenital dislocated hips. She gives talks and speeches to people around the world and fights for the lives of the unborn. The purpose of this article is to persuade the reader that abortion is wrong and can/will take the lives of great people. The author uses words and phrases with strong connotation such as "My mother’s choice was my death sentence" to show the reader how terrible abortion is. From this is can infer that the author’s viewpoint is that every person deserves a life and that abortion is wrong. I know this because Sarah Smith tells about her story and how if she had been aborted, she wouldn’t be able to do what she does today which is study medicine and fight to end abortion (“Although a second abortion was suggested, my mother refused and instead brought me to term…my mother Betty and I speak publicly throughout the country and throughout the world.”). The main idea is that you should never sacrifice your own child no matter what because you don’t know about their quality of life, personality etc. until they are born and that they have the ability become great people, like Sarah Smith has. This source does have bias because it is a persuasion article and uses facts from a true story, although there is some opinion. The author’s viewpoint is slanted because the author is strongly pro-life. Because the article is a true story and has opinion, there is no conflicting evidence. I can tell that the source I obtained this article from is accurate because there is a way you can send mail, email, call, fax, etc. the organization. Also, you can set up meetings with Sarah Smith and there is a question/ comment page. Also, many other sources say the same thing and there are links from the website to other sources about this topic.
